'People are intimidated' - why 'juggernaut' Arsenal have become the side to defeat.

It's obvious why Arsenal are now countless pundits' top picks to secure the Premier League this season.

Consider their results against West Ham and Crystal Palace compared to those same matches during the prior term.

The Gunners have overcome all of them in the current season, but lost 10 points across those games as they faded in the title race previously.

Defensive Dominance

Arsenal's defensive strength is a crucial element why they are seeming ready to finally fulfil their title goal.

They rank top for clean sheets (6), shots let in (3), shots faced (72), shots on target faced (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is potentially the finest in the league, with Arsenal keeping a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Dead-Ball Dominance

Their effectiveness from free kicks is highly documented, but opposition teams still struggle to stop the Gunners from these opportunities.

They have scored 11 times from set-pieces in the league, a couple extra than any other side, with 69% of their goals originating from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a intimidation presence. People are just wary of them and it is great to see."

Championship Claims

What is even more remarkable about Arsenal's beginning to the campaign is they have also played Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City on home turf - and are still four points clear at the top.

While they maintain victories, their traditional rivals are struggling. This marks the initial occasion at this stage of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The expectations was on boss Mikel Arteta at the outset, having spent around £250m on eight summer additions in quest of that long-awaited first title since 2004.

But the spending has so far paid off in style, with his side one of the most prolific attacks in the league and possessing the strongest defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Shutouts in three straight Premier League games
  • Over six hours without allowing a goal
  • Only three goals in 12 games across every tournament

Former players and analysts have described Arteta's men as a "powerhouse, looking challenging to stop" with the whole club now functioning with conviction and purpose.
